In a few days, the Browne Review on university funding will make its recommendations. Although much media attention has been focused on the issue of full time students, the elephant in the room is what it will mean for part time undergraduates. Provokateur has been working with The Open University, the largest university in Europe and the leader in part time learning, to make sure the voice of part time students is heard. Four in Ten is a campaign brand created by Provokateur to communicate a clear, powerful message to policy makers and politicians that we ignore part time undergraduates at our peril.

The name ‘Four in Ten’ is based on the astonishing fact that four in ten undergraduates in England study part time. Why, then, does the debate on student funding seem to focus largely on full time students? This is what we hope to change.

Working closely with the social media agency, We Are Social, Provokateur created the Four in Ten strategy, brand, messaging and site design. The campaign itself is designed to mobilise students and alumni and create a buzz on the social media networks.

To check out the site and register your support, visit www.fourinten.org.

This week you might have seen a lot of coverage in the national press about the number of young kids being locked up. The reason why you're seeing this is because of a campaign Provokateur helped the Prison Reform Trust launch. Working closely with PRT, Provokateur created the name, branding and communications for the campaign.

Last year over 7,000 prison sentences were given to children. It might be the kind of thing that appeals to Daily Mail readers, but the evidence shows that prison should be the last resort. Far from preventing crime, locking up kids not only embeds social problems but fails to deal with the problem of young offenders.

The Prison Reform Trust asked Provokateur to help create an online campaign around this important issue and the result is a textbook piece of ecampaigning – creative, engaging and involving.

Provokateur was lucky to work with award winning photographer Ed Clarke who provided a library of incredibly powerful images for the site. These images, combined with key facts about juvenile detention, gave the website an immediate impact. Provokateur also helped set up Twitter and Facebook groups for the campaign, while building into the website a database tool that would allow visitors to locate and email their MPs.

What makes us proud is that the site combines creative punch with technical nous. This is an uncomfortable, even unpopular, issue to campaign on but the result is something that we hope is thought provoking – and effective.

Take a look at www.outoftrouble.org.uk

Often the most interesting work comes from organisations with big ambitions but, erm, small budgets. When Provokateur was asked to create the brand and packaging for Enterprise in a Box, the latest initiative My Bnk, it had to come up with something punchy, engaging and affordable – necessity is indeed the mother of invention.

Enterprise in a box is a classic social enterprise in its own right, providing a product that helps kids aged 11-17 learn business basics.

Each box contains the products to sell, templates for a business plan, tips on selling and promotion and all the necessaries for keeping the accounts. The products are little social enterprises in themselves so not only do they give people a first taste of business but they help instil the belief that business should have a conscience.

It’s a great product and Provokateur came up with a brand system and packaging design that made a virtue of the limited budget. The aesthetic, derived from packing boxes themselves, had a modern, zesty twist that would appeal to their young audience.

So if you know any young aspiring Branson’s looking to get their teeth into, get them to check out www.enterpriseinabox.org.

The new site amalgamates the vast amounts of content related to Mr Annan’s various activites, visits, speaking engagements and news articles in one place, providing a useful and engaging website for partner organsiations, journalists, media and the public.

Provokateur has been appointed by The Elders to help develop their online communications. It would ne no exaggeration to describe The Elders as one of the most remarkable organisations on the planet - although the word 'organisation' is a bit misleading.

It’s not an organisaion in a traditional sense so much as a group of eminent global leaders convened by Nelson Mandela and Graça Machel to bring their experience and independent voices to the resolution of conflict and to the alleviation of human suffering.

The opportunity to work for an organisation that includes within its company Nelson Mandela, Mary Robinson, Jimmy Carter, Desmond Tutu, Kofi Annan and Aung San Suu Kyi is both thrilling and daunting. We’ll keep you posted.

Provokateur has been working with Car Plus, Transport for London and individual car club operators to create a brand and marketing campaign for this genuinely great enterprise.

Car clubs give people all the benefits of owning a car, without, well, owning it. As the strapline says, it’s pay-as-you-go cars, with cars only 5 or ten minutes away. The brand is appearing on road signs, is bieng used and promoted by local authorities and will be shared by indidual car club operators.

If ever there was an idea to demonstrate how much smarter green living can be, this is it. Just the kind of client we love.

With the branding done, Provokateur did the marketing campaign, currently appearing on buses, billboards and online. Visit www.carclubs.org.uk and drop us a line if you’d like to find out more.

The project was for Rise, an excellent organisation stimulating social enterprise in the South West. The brand itself, however, is to be used and shared by social enterprises across the country, raising awareness of the sector much as the fair trade brand identity has done. Provokateur is proud to have worked on the development of the brand and was thrilled to see it launched at the Eden Project – who look like they’ll be amongst the first organisations to be sporting it. Over the next few months, we will be working with Rise to develop further marketing and communciations to ensure the brand travels far and wide. In the meantime though, here’s a little taster of what the brand looks like.
